Hawker Aircraft As Sopwith Aircraft went bankrupt Sopwith, test pilot Harry Hawker and Tommy Sopwith formed H.G. Hawker Engineering in 1920, becoming Hawker Aircraft Limited in 1933. The company acquired Gloster Aircraft, Armstrong Siddeley and Armstrong Whitworth to become Hawker Siddeley. Avro was eventually included in this group of companies. Today the Hawker brand still exists within the American company Raytheon that produces business jets.

Douglas A-20 Havoc The Havoc was first used by the French Air Force as the DB-7 then came into service with the USAAC in January 1941 as the A-20 medium bomber, attack and night fighter. Handley Page Limited Handley Page was Britain's very first aircraft manufacturing company, formed in 1909 by Frederick Handley Page. In 1912 the factory moved from Barking to Cricklewood Aerodrome. During the First World War Handley Page produced heavy bombers for the Royal Navy to bomb the Zeppelin yards. Between the wars Handley Page turned to transport aircraft, becoming Imperial Airways. At the onset of the next war, bomber production restarted with the Hampden and the Halifax. Handley Page continued into the cold-war era with the Victor. Handley Page eventually merged with Hawker Siddeley and the British Aircraft Corporation.

The name was simplified to Gloster Aircraft then merged with the Hawker Siddeley Group. Many aircraft were manufactured including the Gladiator, Meteor and the Javelin. This design has a deliberate weathered and aged look.

F-4 Phantom II The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was first developed for the United States Navy and entered service in 1960. This fighter-bomber is a large, formidable aircraft that has a top speed of Mach 2.2 and is capable of carrying a devastating payload. The F-4 was used during the Vietnam war in many roles including air superiority, ground-attack and reconnaissance. This long-serving type continued operational duties during the Gulf War in 1991.

McDonnell Douglas F-4 FGR2 RAF Phantom After the cancellation of the TSR2 project, the Royal Air Force had to find a replacement for the Canberra and Hunter types. Initially the F-111 was considered but the option of ordering the Phantom was taken with alteration to engines, airframes and avionics. The first RAF Phantom entered service in 1969 with the formation of 6 Squadron at Coningsby. The FGR2 took on the roles of Close air support, tactical strike, reconnaissance and air defence. The Phantom was withdrawn from service in 1992.

General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark The F-111 entered service in 1967 as an interdictor, fighter-bomber and strategic bomber. The F-111 pioneered new technologies such as variable-sweep wings, afterburning turbo fan engines and terrain following radar for low-level tasks at high speed. Having served in Vietnam and the Gulf war the Aardvark retired in 1996. The Royal Australian Air Force continued to use the aircraft up until 2010.
