Supermarine Spitfire
The Spitfire is a must for the flyingraphics collection. The shirt displays the heritage of the Spitfire starting with the Supermarine S.5 designed by R.J. Mitchell to compete for the Schneider Trophy in 1927. The main illustration shows the MK I type 300 and the MK XIV type 379 in side elevation. On the back of the shirt we have printed an illustration of the Rolls Royce Merlin.

Avro Vulcan
The Vulcan B1 was first delivered to the RAF in 1956 and the B2 in 1960. The Vulcan played an important role in the Cold War as the part of the 'V-Force' alongside the Valiant and Victor. It was armed with nuclear weapons, the Blue Steel missile and conventional bombs. The Vulcan was also used for maritime reconnaissance tasks and as a air-refuelling tanker. The Americans affectionately referred to the Vulcan as the 'Aluminium Cloud' owing to its enormous delta wing profile. The Vulcan was used in anger during the Falklands War in 1982 where it delivered conventional bombs onto the airfield at Port Stanley.

Operation Chastise - Dambusters Raid
On the 16-17th May 1943, 617 Squadron carried out an attack on the Rhur Dams using the famous bouncing bomb. Squadron X from No.5 Group RAF became 617 under the command of Wing Commander Guy Gibson with crews made up of many nationalities including the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

English Electric Lightning
THE supersonic fighter of the Cold War, this jet was capable of Mach 2 with an incredible rate of climb still classified to this day. The Lightning entered service in 1959 and retired from the RAF in 1988 having served as an interceptor, notably engaging Russian reconnaissance aircraft that were 'testing' the UK's air defences.

McDonnell Douglas F-4 FGR2 RAF Phantom
After the cancellation of the TSR2 project, the Royal Air Force had to find a replacement for the Canberra and Hunter types. Initially the F-111 was considered but the option of ordering the Phantom was taken with alteration to engines, airframes and avionics. The first RAF Phantom entered service in 1969 with the formation of 6 Squadron at Coningsby. The FGR2 took on the roles of Close air support, tactical strike, reconnaissance and air defence. The Phantom was withdrawn from service in 1992.

The ill-fated TSR2 was planned as a strike and reconnaissance aircraft for the Royal Air Force. Designed to attack at very low altitude and high speeds to deliver conventional and nuclear weapons. Controversially the programme was scrapped by the British Government in 1965.

The RAF Tornado GR1 experienced a Mid-Life Update and was upgraded and entered service in 1996. The upgrade included CUSP avionics that integrated the Paveway IV weapon with the communications module from Cassidian and TIE (Tactical Information Exchange) from General Dynamics. The GR4 was capable of Mach 2.2 with a range of 870 miles in combat.

The RAF operates the Chinook HC2/A variant and performed(s) an important role in the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan. The nickname 'WOKKA' comes from the distinctive sound made by the 60ft diameter twin rotors chopping the air.

Blackburn/Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer
The Buccaneer first came into service with the Royal Navy as a carrier borne aircraft in 1962. As well as in an anti-shipping role, the Buccaneer was capable of delivering nuclear weapons. When the RN retired the Buccaneer in 1978, the RAF took it on as a low level strike aircraft. It became the S.2B with updated RAF avionics, carried Martel missiles and had an extra fuel tank in its bomb-bay. The low-level performance comes from its robust and durable airframe and the low speed capability is due to boundary layer technology that bled high pressure air from the engine to give the wings more lift. 208 was the last RAF Squadron to operate the 'Bucc', which was disbanded in 1994.

Hawker Hurricane
Designed by Sir Sydney Camm, the Hurricane first flew in 1935. It was used during the Battle of France, Operation Dynamo and the Battle of Britain where it became known as the 'workhorse' of the RAF. As a steady and robust gun platform it was tasked to attack the invading German bombers with great effectiveness. The Hurricane continued to be produced in many variants right through to the end of the war.
