The Whittle first flew on 15th May 1941. The Whittle, also known as the Pioneer or G.40 was Britain's first jet engined aircraft created for the Air Ministry to test Frank Whittle's new jet propulsion technology. This experimental aircraft led to the development of the Meteor.

The Hawker Hunter first flew on 20th July 1951, developed by Hawker Aircraft for the Royal Air Force the jet entered service in 1954. The Shooting Star, designed by Kelly Johnson, was the first U.S. jet fighter. The jet first flew in 1944 and entered service with the USAAF in 1945. The P-80 was briefly operational at the end of World War II and saw combat during the Korean War.

Republic F-84 Thunderjet
The Thunderjet entered service with the USAAF in 1947 as a strike aircraft and was used during the Korean War. Famously, the first 'Thunderbirds' display team used the Thunderjet. The F-84 was the first to be capable of in-flight refuelling and carrying a nuclear weapon. The type was eventually developed with a swept wing and re-designated as the Thunderstreak.

Folland Gnat
The Gnat first flew on 18th July 1955, developed by Folland Aircraft as a light fighter. It entered service with the Royal Air Force in 1959 as a trainer but the type was exported to other countries as a fighter aircraft.
