Supermarine Aviation Works Supermarine started in 1913 as Pemberton-Billing in Southampton, building seaplanes and flying boats. As Supermarine, it found fame when winning the Schneider Trophy three times. This success led to the development of the legendary Spitfire and many other types. In 1928 Vickers-Armstrongs took over the company to become Supermarine Aviation Works (Vickers) Ltd.

The company is most famous for producing two aircraft; the Canberra and Lightning jets.

Hawker Aircraft As Sopwith Aircraft went bankrupt Sopwith, test pilot Harry Hawker and Tommy Sopwith formed H.G. Hawker Engineering in 1920, becoming Hawker Aircraft Limited in 1933. The company acquired Gloster Aircraft, Armstrong Siddeley and Armstrong Whitworth to become Hawker Siddeley. Avro was eventually included in this group of companies. Today the Hawker brand still exists within the American company Raytheon that produces business jets.

Sopwith Aviation Company The Sopwith Aviation Company was formed in 1912 by Thomas Octave Murdoch Sopwith. Tommy was a wealthy sportsman interested in aviation, yachting and motor racing. The business started at Brooklands, moved to Canbury Park Road then settled in Kingston. After World War I Sopwith was liquidated and Tommy Sopwith formed HG Hawker Engineering with Harry Hawker, Fred Sigrist and Bill Eyre. Sopwith produced many aircraft types including the Camel, Dove, Pup and Swallow. The design has a deliberate aged look.

Avro Aircraft Avro was formed in 1910 in Manchester by Alliott Verdon Roe. The company is best known for producing aircraft such as the Avro 504, Lancaster and Vulcan as well as the Blue Steel Missile. In 1963 the company was merged into Hawker Siddeley.

Curtiss Aeroplane Company In 1907 Glenn Curtiss became a member of the Aerial Experiment Association founded by Dr Alexander Graham Bell. The purpose of the association was to establish aeronautical research and development. Glenn Curtis then formed the Herring-Curtiss Company with Augustus Herring which was then renamed the Curtiss Aeroplane Company in 1910 based in Hammondsport, New York. Curtiss merged with the Curtiss Motor Company in 1916 and established itself in Buffalo, New York. The Curtiss Aeroplane Company ended in 1929 with the merger of the Wright Corporation.

Handley Page Limited Handley Page was Britain's very first aircraft manufacturing company, formed in 1909 by Frederick Handley Page. In 1912 the factory moved from Barking to Cricklewood Aerodrome. During the First World War Handley Page produced heavy bombers for the Royal Navy to bomb the Zeppelin yards. Between the wars Handley Page turned to transport aircraft, becoming Imperial Airways. At the onset of the next war, bomber production restarted with the Hampden and the Halifax. Handley Page continued into the cold-war era with the Victor. Handley Page eventually merged with Hawker Siddeley and the British Aircraft Corporation.

The name was simplified to Gloster Aircraft then merged with the Hawker Siddeley Group. Many aircraft were manufactured including the Gladiator, Meteor and the Javelin. This design has a deliberate weathered and aged look.
