English Electric Lightning THE supersonic fighter of the Cold War, this jet was capable of Mach 2 with an incredible rate of climb still classified to this day. The Lightning entered service in 1959 and retired from the RAF in 1988 having served as an interceptor, notably engaging Russian reconnaissance aircraft that were 'testing' the UK's air defences. The English Electric Company Limited Formed in 1918, English Electric was the conglomeration of five business making munitions, armaments and aeroplanes during World War I. Best known for electric motors and transformers for the rail industry the business expanded into consumer electronics, reactors, guided missiles and aircraft. The company is most famous for producing two aircraft; the Canberra and Lightning jets. T-shirts are made from 100% pre-shrunk ringspun cotton.
