Supermarine Spitfire The Spitfire is a must for the flyingraphics collection. The shirt displays the heritage of the Spitfire starting with the Supermarine S.5 designed by R.J. Mitchell to compete for the Schneider Trophy in 1927. The main illustration shows the MK I type 300 and the MK XIV type 379 in side elevation. On the back of the shirt we have printed an illustration of the Rolls Royce Merlin.

Sopwith Aviation Company The Sopwith Aviation Company was formed in 1912 by Thomas Octave Murdoch Sopwith. Tommy was a wealthy sportsman interested in aviation, yachting and motor racing. The business started at Brooklands, moved to Canbury Park Road then settled in Kingston. After World War I Sopwith was liquidated and Tommy Sopwith formed HG Hawker Engineering with Harry Hawker, Fred Sigrist and Bill Eyre. Sopwith produced many aircraft types including the Camel, Dove, Pup and Swallow.

Initially the Union Flag was painted on early combat aircraft, but roundels were used to avoid confusion with the German Iron Cross. The Royal Flying Corps started using the blue outer and red centre roundel in December 1914. The roundel evolved over the years and varied according to the role of the aircraft it was painted on.

The helicopter was jointly manufactured by Aérospatiale and Westland Helicopters. The Puma has seen service across the world with the RAF; West Germany, Belize, Northern Ireland, Venezuela and the Middle East in combat and in humanitarian operations. In 2012 the Puma HC Mk 2 entered service with many improvements including two Turbomeca Makila engines, a new defensive aids suite and the ability to carry a greater payload. The RAF Puma fleet will remain in service until 2025.

Bell P-39 Airacobra Designed by Bell Aircraft, the Airacobra is a unique design with the engine positioned centrally in the fuselage and a tricycle undercarriage. The P-39 entered service in 1941 with the USSAC, RAF, Soviet Air Force, Free French and Italian Co-Belligerent Air Force. After the war the Airacobra was used in the US National Air Races.

Lockheed P-38 Lightning Designed by Clarence 'Kelly' Johnson, the Lightning first flew in 1939 and entered military service in 1941. It had a distinctive design with a central nacelle and twin booms. The P-38 was most successful in the Pacific theatre, flown by aces such as Richard Bong, Thomas McGuire and Charles H. MacDonald. The Honduran Air Force used the Lightning right up until 1965.

The USAAC insignia The US Army Air Service was formed by order of President Woodrow Wilson in 1917 as the US entered the First World War after which the United States Army Air Corps was formed in 1926 as part of the United States Army as a result of legislative changes in the War Department. The service rapidly grew in the 1930s even during the Great Depression. In 1941 the Army Air Corp's role change to training and logistics within the newly formed United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). This design features a weather worn cocarde of white star and red dot.
